One Day on Earth

The World's Story is Yours to Tell

Hello. I just joined this educators group but noticed that a lot of the discussions are from October 2010. Is anyone planning on having their students do some writing/collaboration around global issues on 11/11/11?

Hi Chris! My students are going to be filming for the project ... some of them are focused on global issues, and others have developed other topics/concepts appropriate for the purpose of the One Day on Earth documentary. We're open to collaborating on the project - at the very least we could share footage and connect students to discuss their learning experiences in different parts of the world.

Let me know if you're interested. I've got a group - Mr. K's Classroom, and am working at an American School in southern Taiwan.

My Best,
Dan

Sounds good Dan.  I teach English, photography, and video in Utah.  What are some of the other/topics concepts you are thinking about?  One of the things I was thinking about is doing something around education.  For instance, what if some of my students were to talk about 1) what they've learned recently and 2) something they'd like to see improve in education.  I also have some students interested in environmental issues and things like the Occupy movement.  Let's talk more.  We'd like to collaborate.

Hey Guys,

My students are goingo to film on education too... maybe we could share with you all...

Great news, Rogelio.  For sure, let's share.  I only just found out about this project late last week, so my students are just brainstorming right now.  So far, they're pretty excited about the project.  I've been showing some of the staff picks to them, and we've been discussing both the technical merit (since I teach photography and film), and also the content (since my students are very much interested in environmental issues, for instance, and in some of the careers that are profiled in the 10.10.10 videos).

On 11.11.11 some of my students will be focusing on what they actually learn in school and what ideas they have to improve education.  Maybe some of your students could do the same?  When we're done, I'm sure my students and yours could have some interesting conversations around what they "learned about learning" at their local level.

By the way,  estoy tratando de aprender Español.

Where do you teach and what subjects? How do you incorporate the UN's Millennium Development goals into your teaching?
Hello Chris, hope this group is still alive. My students are planning to video tape life in our school this 11/11 and we would love to work in some extra project or do some coenction with other school from around the world. We are from Jujuy Argentina. We can do some activity with your students if like. Let me know if you have any idea. Ok

Hey,

Well, I teach in a school here in Mexico called "Octavio Paz International Academy" (www.iiop.edu.mx), and I´m teacher of Social Sciences, Ethics, and a subject called "desarrollo comunitario". We are a completely new school, so we´ve decided that we wanted to create global minded students, that´s why we decided to incorporate the MDG to our "desarrollo comunitario"... so each one of our students is working a project that they´ve designed by themselves.
Would you like to work that with your students? that would be a good idea to share with students from all over the world.
We can work together sharing experiences about UN´s MDG... what do you say? My school (high school) is in Ajijic Jalisco México...

Regards
Sounds like an escuela muy progresiva. I think my students could learn quite a bit from yours. By the way my students write online on a website called Youth Voices where we collaborate with other students, mostly around the U.S. but some are from other countries. You're welcome to join us there, or we could collaborate on this website too. Either way, I think we should compare our projects that our students do on 11.11.11.

One last thing, I participate in a webcast called Teachers Teaching Teachers every Wednesday (6pm PDT/9pm EDT/1 am GMT). This week we'll be talking about the One Day on Earth project. You're welcome to join us.

Hi Katy.  Yes my students would be interested in collaborating.  We're also filming our day in school on 11.11.11.  We'll be focusing on a couple of questions:  1) what are you learning in school, and 2) how could education be improved? After we're done, we could compare videos and have some conversations. How does that sound?

Hi there Chris,

I believe many of our educators from last year are participating again this year, feel free to friend them and to send them an email. Because they've already done this last year they may not be on this page specifically, but are active and have lots to share with you.
