One Day on Earth

The World's Story is Yours to Tell

My One Day on Earth in Adelaide, South Australia

My final plan for filming on 10.10.10 was to try and capture images of things I felt made my home city of Adelaide unique. The raw footage for this has now been uploaded, and tonight I have finished my own short film version of that content. While I won't be submitting the edited footage formally, I have placed it directly on Vimeo for all to see and have embedded it here for you to enjoy.

Hopefully this inspires others to complete their own works for this amazing project. After all, there isn't much point filming it, if you don't ultimately upload it for use in the project!

To see where I went during 10.10.10 you can follow the blue trails on this tracking map:

For me, "One Day on Earth" has been a series of highs and lows. From first being invited to take part some 15 months ago, to trying to decide what to film, considering such diverse topics as water, energy and scenic vistas from around my state, to ultimately trying to set up to film the earth from near space, it has been an amazing journey. The failure of the last attempt, while gut renching, still did not rob me of the desire to participate. Today hopefully you will agree that my contributions still fulfill the spirit of One Day On Earth, if not perhaps the granduer of the balloon space imagery attempt.

Speaking of the helium balloon experiments, we do have some images from the test run held on 10.9.10. While they won't count for the ODOE project, I am still preparing them into a documentary and will post the finished film to the blog once are ready, so you can see at least what might have been. If you would like more information about Project Horus in South Australia go to http://projecthorus.org/.

Meanwhile, it is now time to turn my attentions to the Christmas season, and prepare my annual christmas lights display - which is a major project in it's own right. If you are curious about what I mean by that, then please visit http://christmas.darkeyrie.net/ for a better idea!

Thanks to everyone at One Day on Earth for your encouragement throughout this project. Through your initial invitation, you inspired me, a self taught amateur film maker, to seek more training and further explore the world of film production in the first place. (I am indeed back to TAFE tomorrow night to continue the video production course which I started 3 months ago). You have helped spark a new interest for me that I am sure will continue long after this project is over.

To the project Horus high altitude balloon team, thanks for getting enthused yourselves about the "One Day On Earth" project and for your determination to try and pull off the amazing. I know we ultimately didn't get there, but the feeling you all showed towards this hair brain concept of mine to feature your project in this film project was inspirational.

Finally, I look forward to seeing what the next steps are for One Day on Earth! I wish the ODOE team all the best in pulling together such diverse a collection of film makers, both amateur and professional alike to produce what will truely be a unique feature film experience.
