Who are you and what is your profession?
I was born in Brittany, France and presently live in Lyon. I’ve been an English teacher for some time, a secretary too, a rock festival organizer, an Irish music busker also, a web designer at some point, and then founded NEOMME, a small indie label in 2000, for which I’m presently working, managing artists, booking tour, producing records for them. I’m also a composer of ambient tracks, orchestral pieces and folk songs when I have time.

Can you tell us a little about your background and upbringing?
I grew up in the countryside. My grandparents had a farm in Brittany, my parents were philosophy teachers. I’ve always been surrounded by books, music and trees, brought up on the principle that culture was the means to solve problems through communication and humility. I’m a Taoist and father of a son who’s more on the metal side of music... see?

What inspired you to be a filmmaker?
I’m not a film maker though I love to capture particular moments in a day with a camera. Like light on a building or clouds moving. For the 101010 project I had one camera which I would change places at each phase of the writing. I edited the film in the night.

Who or what do you most admire?
I admire optimistic people who go on with their fight no matter what happens, absolutely decided to make a situation evolve to balance. I love excessive artists. Writers like Shakespeare, Lowry, Okigbo. Musicians like Tom Waits, David Sylvian,  Cesar Franck or Vaughn Williams. I love Truffaud’s movies, Welles and Chaplin.

What did you film on 10.10.10?
On 101010, I decided to compose, orchestrate, record, mix and release an ambient track in the day. I wanted to show that something technical but simple could be done in a very short period of time. With a few tools and some know-how, imagine what could be done in a year. It was quite a marathon and the track might need some more mixing maybe, but the action of doing this, not stopping until it would be done was quite exciting, energy producing energy, forcing elements to combine, determination building up an order that would fit the schedule.

The fact that so many people filmed so many things on 101010 is an amazing evidence that people believe. In themselves of course, but also in showing and sharing, proposing, doing instead of not doing anything. When I was a student in linguistics, I remember a phd mentioning “language universals”, some words that were common to all cultures and were supposed to come from an ancient indo-european people. When you watch the videos on ODOE, you quickly understand that there are emotion universals too, visions that coincide perfectly, even 10 000 miles apart. I’m proud to have been part of this on a day.
