10.10.10 Flight Doubtful - 60% chance

Helium Balloon Camera Flight for 10.10.10 - In Doubt due to the Weather

Well, the weather is not working in our favour very well for the 10.10.10 proposed launch, with the stable high presure system moving east and shifting the flight path still close to water for a landing. Unlike two days ago however we have become a little more optimistic.

As the Project Horus group wish to definitely fly this weekend, we will be launching the first flight, designated Horus 8 on 10.9.10 around midday - which will be used to shake down the payloads and to also fly an experimental HF transmitter payload on the 7MHz amateur band. This flight is guarenteed and final preparations have been made tonight for this launch.

The flight on 10.10.10 is currently tentatively planned for a 9am launch time - and is subject to continued revision of the flight predictions and balloon parameters. This flight will be (if it proceeds) designated Horus 9.

The predicted flight path now looks like:

This is still very close to water for the landing, but we are expecting an updated flight profile tomorrow morning following the processing of tonights radiosond flight data from the bureau of meteorology.

Fingers crossed for 10.10.10 that the weather is kind and we can still try and launch a balloon to the edge of the atmosphere!
