Life in villages in Kenya

From Namunyak Maasai Driector, Emmanuel Tasur

One Day on Earth provided us at the Sirua Aulo Academy to put everything we are doing here in perspective. Changing lives through education one child at a time is, I believe is one of the most rewarding jobs that can be undertaken in this world. We set off with the 2 Village Volunteers in our program, David Karen from Switzerland and Emma Gillies from Canada to the Sirua Aulo Academy to the great reception of children in the Sunday Service.

Later we were joined by another volunteer from Canada, Kristian Hurley. The Sirua Aulo Academy has been in existence for the last 2 years but the dream of building the school and more has been with me since my childhood days when I had to travel 7KM one way to school under the shadow of buffaloes in the bushes.

At Sirua Aulo Academy quality learning has been taking place despite our challenges. The faces of children today, full of excitement and ready to learn is a great voice of strength that pushes us through all the hardships. Our children still go down to a stream near-by to bathe and wash their clothing and there is need for us to drill a well at the school that will provide children with cleaner and safe water.

The construction that goes on and the delivery of supplies is a great sight to behold. I hope that many children across the globe will find the joy to get an education that enriches them to be better human beings. At the Sirua Aulo Academy, through One Day on Earth, we just realized that we were part of a global village that is shaping humanity through education.

Thanks,
Emmanuel Leina Tasur, Founder/Director Sirua Aulo Academy, Executive Officer Namunyak Maasai Welfare.
