The World's Story is Yours to Tell

How can a team of students from a well placed English Medium Higher Secondary School help the needy at Communities Rising? I was there at a seminar conducted by a student of Nirmala Higher Secondary School yesterday. Senior students of this school are a great potential source as trainers in English language. Darsana's details are on http://wikieducator.org/User:Djoseph

We already are a team of English Language Trainers - schools students turned teachers. Visit www.youtube.com/eschoolkerala

Hope to be of service

Dear Sebastian,

Thanks very much for your inquiry. I had the chance to watch some of your YouTube posts and they were very interesting. Congratulations on the great work that you and your students are doing. Not many administrators are willing to let their students take such initiative and give them such responsibility. As you know, they will benefit tremendously.

I would love to partner with you on an English project with some of our students. It would be a great opportunity for our students and a wonderful example for them to see what can be done by other students their age. It will also be a great opportunity for your students to share their talents with those much less fortunate than themselves.

Communities Rising presently has one computer center for our after school programs, but it is in a very rural area and there is no internet access. We are in the process of opening another center in a less rural area that has access. I anticipate that it will open within the next few months. At that point, we should be able to start working together. Initially, there will be 9 computers in the new center. One of our primary group of students at this new center will be 70 boys living in a nearby orphanage. They range in age from 6-17. They are primarily Tamil medium students although a few of them study in an English medium school. Perhaps we could pair them with your students for a few hours each week?

If you send me some more information about how your program works, and how you would propose to work with our students, we can start making the arrangements.

Thanks very much for your inquiry. I look forward to working together. It should be a unique and most worthwhile venture for all of our students.

All the best,
Betsy McCoy
