In August, 2012, a parishioner and amateur artist named Cecilia Gimenez "restored" a painting of Jesus by Elias Martinez Martinez hanging in the Sanctuary of Mercy Church in Borja, Zaragoza, Spain. Her "restoration" of the painting, originally titled "Ecce Home" (Behold the Man) has become an internet phenomenon, dubbed "Ecce Mono" (Behold the Monkey). On 12/12/12 I intend to re-paint her version - to "restore" it, if you will, and film (in a minute) the process. My version will then be posted to Vimeo, and everyone will be encouraged to "restore" my version- and other artists to "restore" theirs. Who knows if this will lead back to an accurate re-creation of the original - or to something quite different!
