What did you film on 12.12.12?
Nairobi is many things: a city with hundreds of institutions for higher learning, hundreds of open air car garages, horse races on Sunday at the Ngong Racecourse where residents runrn up on hats and heels , its a vibrant nightlife, its hard core crime and live gigs in open fields. Its open air markets and world class shopping Malls where rich teenage kids hang out to eat junk food and flirt with each otther. Its also sprawling slums and homeless kids and hospitals where sometimes patients are forced to share beds.... But we are keen to stay away from filming the typical slums that represent this city to so many and opt instead to film Hawkers in a middle Class shopping area notable for its sprawl of open air meat roasting (nyama choma) and beer dens called Nairobi West. These hawkers are walking supermarkets, carrying everything on the shoulders from dog chains to padlocks and mens socks. There's a lady who sells gospel CD's and sings the lyrics and tune into the ears of residents as they have a beer and roast meat.

A day in the life of Nairobi West will give a glimpse into another Africa, one very typical to us who live and work here and anyone living in an African city but probably unglimpsed at by the world.

ROCK GUITARIST

Theres a 60 year old guitarist who brings the house down every time he plays - from lyrical lingala to sliding across floors on his knees to the mad rock rythms his fingers are unleashing. Filming for him preparing to play and finally hitting the stage to set young twenty-somethings on fire with his passion might be a good option to the first idea presented abpve.

What an interesting idea RE the guitarist. It would be great just to see what nightlife is all about in Nairobi
