Circle of Peace School provides free tuition and board to children from disadvantaged backgrounds, many of them aids orphans or kids from the village who have no other access to education. Currently teaches 250 students K-7 and boards 30 students, most of whom have been orphaned by AIDS. Known in the community as the “School that Love Built”, the Peace School delivers high quality education to children who otherwise could not afford fees. But as a family runs non-profit they lack the financial resources to bring all the kids from the villages under their roof.
David Davenport, a junior at the University of Richmond and former president of Peace International’s partner organization, Givology Spiders, was recently awarded a grant from the Davis Projects for Peace Foundation that will be used to support the Circle of Peace School by building a poultry farm. The Peace Foundation (www.davisprojectsforpeace.org) is supported by philanthropist Kathryn W. Davis who launched the program on her 100th birthday in 2007. Mr. Davenport's main goal is to establish a sustainable business with the capacity to grow.
This project has many benefits for the Peace School, its students, and Makindye. However, we think that the most notable impact of this project will be the financial stability and sustainability it gives to the Peace School. Furthermore, by helping to secure the stability and sustainability of the Peace School, this project will help ensure that the Peace School can continue to improve its community by educating and inspiring its students, by supporting AIDS orphans, and by alleviating its community of poverty.
