Listening to Ron play guitar as I write. An aching in my shoulders and my right wrist.... bad ergonomics at my computer. Starting to type with my left hand only. Much slower. Oh well.
Lyra had her appointment with her endocrinologist today. Her doctor is a beautiful, smart young woman with a twinkle in her eye, and clearly a soft spot for children with special needs.
The appointment went well. Lyra's
A1c is coming down, thank goodness and ourselves for tighter control of her insulin to carbohydrate ratio. It is a difficult
balance to maintain, especially with a toddler and a toddler's finicky eating habits.
All four of us went to the appointment. It feels important to have Skylar, Lyra's older sister, be a part of this process. I know it is not easy for her that we have to spend so much energy caring for Lyra, and still she helps when she can. She is the best big sister, and a very special little girl too.
We had fun.... you know, the kind of self created fun that helps pass the time..... drawing, singing, looking out the window. Among the many things I have learned in this rewarding process of caring for Lyra, one of the most important things has been patience, and a keen appreciation of the little moments. Every little moment for a child, and for an adult with the openness of a child contains so much potential when nothing is forced. Allowing what emerges in the moment, creates a space where much can be learned.
