THE WATER PIPE and Polluted Landscape
The making of a work of art related to the landscape and the existence of a water pipe, takes a lot of effort and imagination, especially when one is using non traditional concepts in which to bring out the essence and the physical qualities of the tangible scenery polluted by human hands.
The original concept begun back in September of 2008 when I decided that this was going to be a two side wooden panel.
I begun to work on one side first after gluing some canvas over a prepared wooden surface, mistreated on the opposite side to re-enact the elements cause by erosion in nature. All water pipes do change and altered the appearance of the land.
The use of texture and collage to simulate the pollution imposed to nature by human hands gave me the right effects that this work needed to convey. Using modeling paste and fiber glass I was able to reinforce and bound a very strong surface with some real objects and textures. Others areas were painted in a traditional way. This is a mixed media work, a combination of painting, construction, assemblage and installation. Each assemble elements is an individual work of art. A lot of planning, changing and re-working underwent in to the rendering of this piece of art. The work took me nine months to be completed and its originality speaks by itself. The piece of furniture represents the land and the wooden panel underneath, on the floor with the stones, is the land as it was before modern technology came along, which changed, altered and transformed the whole planet.
