The World's Story is Yours to Tell

The shocking news which opened our Saturday evening TV news bulletin about the massacre in Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown was beyond our conception. How can a twisted young man can murder innocent young kids, shoot them like in ducks firing range?

We immediately thought of our grandchildren who attend an elementary school in America and now being exposed to such a tragedy. What passes in their minds?

Parents got an email from the school’s superintended, informing them about the precaution steps that might be taken to protect the children, which, to tell the truth, are far from calming.

It isn't the first time that such a massacre happen in the USA; It became a kind of closing account with the society by twisted people, no matter what's the cost. Kind of a revenge against the establishment with a dark desire to be engraved in the public awareness. But this is only psychology for a cent. It is bigger than me. Can it be controlled?

I think that the authorities might take some steps to eliminate the phenomenon; They should surround every kindergarten and school in the USA with a fence, post armed guards and prevent strangers or suspicious visitors to enter without checking. We have taken these precautions and enormous costs in Israel many years ago and especially after the years of 'Intiffada' (the Palestinians violent riots and suicide attacks), and schools in Israel are still protected by fences and guarded during studies hours. All malls and supermarkets here are guarded by teams of armored guards and inspectors who check your belongings etc. This might eliminate the phenomenon, but not only that; The American citizen must give up his right to buy and hold arms and leave it to the security forces alone. But even if the law would be changed now, what about the millions of arms and ammunition held by the citizens? Can it be restricted?

Our heart is with you, our fellow Americans. We feel deep sorrow for the twenty young, pure, flowers who will never flourish again, and for the seven adults who found their death by this monster man. Deep ache for those who lost their dear ones in this tragedy. It’s a mourning day for America, sad day for the entire world.

My prayers for better days,

Alex
