One Day on Earth

The World's Story is Yours to Tell

This big round sphere that we live on is called the Earth. We depend on this Earth as much as we depend on the air we breathe. Every living thing on here is only alive today because of the Earth. Everyday we are destroying it by pollution, cutting it down, and littering.
If I were to take a walk down to the local park that has a pond, I would except to see ducks, clean water, and most of all, life. But not every pond, lake, and river has the luxury of being that. Humans have just thrown their trash into it, which includes things like bottles, bags, paper, and even to the extreme, clothes and shoes. It is very ridiculous to see the type of pollution that has gathered in these waters. On the whole Earth, only 3% is fresh water, which leaves the 97% to salt water. Well, the last time I checked, we depend on fresh water, as does a lot of other animals. Who wants to drink nasty water? Who wants to go to a pond or lake that is destroyed? As long as people are polluting the water, animals who depend on it are dieing, and in the long run, we aren’t helping ourselves either. When the time comes to when water is very scarce, we will look back and regret what we have done.
The Earth is being destroyed in another way too, by getting cut down. There are millions and millions of trees on this Earth, so we shouldn’t worry about cutting a few forests down right? Wrong. The more and more trees that we cut down, the more and more our air supply is limiting. The trees on the Earth are a huge oxygen supply. People think that we can just cut down a whole forest and plant a few trees in return. Well, this just isn’t going to work. It takes the trees years to fully grow, and by that time we have cut down hundreds of other forests. There is also a chance that some of the trees that we plant woln’t even make it. Not only are we limiting our oxygen supply, but we are also killing animals. Their homes are being destroyed. They have no where to run to, and in the end they starve and die. We defiantly would not like it if the animals came and destroyed our homes. Now that is something to think about.
I am pretty sure every single day of my life I have seen someone litter, or have seen litter. Now, I find this very outrageous that we have to throw our bottles, bags, and other types of trash on the ground when we have invented a thing called a trash can. Humans are to lazy to walk themselves over to a trash can to throw anything away. This makes humans look like scum-bags. I can walk downtown or in a park, and I can see trash cans set up all over the place, yet for some reason the trash is on the ground, in the street, and in the water. People can not wait a few seconds longer to keep it in their hands to walk over to a trash can, so they simply just throw it on the ground and walk away. If it is your trash, you have the responsibility to throw it away rather than litter.
I am very disappointed to see what human have, and continue to do to this Earth. People just litter, which always leads to pollution, and then, the cutting of our trees. If people could think about what they are doing in the long run that is going to effect us dramatically. But, there are people who want to get this world back to the way it should be, and for it to stop being destroyed. For this, the Earth actually has hope.
