The World's Story is Yours to Tell

The sleepout was very successful, considering the short lead time and selective publicity. So far over AUD51,00 raised and still counting.

There were plenty of tents - MissionBeat Dan called them, cheating and I thoroughly agree though let's face it, the soft double foam mattress under us was pretty indulgent. We find a good spot under a spreading Morton Bay Fig, soft, with an angled view of the giant outdoor movie screen so we could watch Cloudy Then Meatballs (death by giant food) and then two Will Smith films about rag to riches (The Pursuit of Happyness) and street-living superhero Hancock. Though by the time the last one came around, I was asleep - well half asleep punctuated by loud superhero noises and feelgoodisms. The roar of the generator lighting the portable toilets and the glare of the light were unexpected sleep hazards. For our comfort and security - ironic. I woulda felt more comfortable and secure - and au naturel -without them. Had just swooned into the unwilling arms of sleep at around 3.00 am when I was woken by the patter of rain on the plastic sheet covering us and the neighbours dragging their mattresses to join us under the tree shelter. So much for dawn filming ambitions - I didn't wake up until 6.38 by which time the dawn had broken and the ibises had finished foraging for crisp and marshmallow fragments. Was blearily contemplating a dash down the other end of the field for fresh coffee - how very not homeless - when the rain pelted down good-o and it was quick-smart folding of sleeping bags and gone.
My camera misbehaved so am not sure what's going to come out of it, but will add what's poss.
