Your video of Hong Kong is brilliant! I have never been in your city but I hope to visit it soon. It is my pleasure to announce the begining of a short documentary video competition designed to bring attention to the lives of the people who collect waste for recycling across Hong Kong and their contribution to the environment. The competition is being run concurrently with a competition in Bogota, Colombia, and further competitions are planned for Tijuana, Los Angeles, and Belgrade. The goal of the larger project is to gather a set of high-quality videos to examine how the phenomenon of waste collection and recycling plays out in cities across the world.

 

Participants are asked to make a 5 to 8 minute documentary film about an individual waste collector, and in addition submit the responses from a short survey as well as a rough map of where this person collects recycling materials. Cash prizes of 2,500 HKD and 1,000 HKD will be awarded for the 1st and 2nd place videos, which will also feature in the future growth of the competition internationally.
