Who are you, and what is your profession? Kate Kilpatrick, 32, I'm a writer, editor and multimedia journalist.
Can you tell us a little about your background and upbringing? I'm from Philly, the youngest child of a conservative Catholic family. I've worked unusual jobs since I was small -- from selling handmade plaster Peter Rabbit figurines when I was 10 to delivering mail for the post office at 17 to bartending and waitressing in more bars, clubs, hotels and restaurants than I can remember. I was brought up to be independent and hardworking but compassionate.
What inspired you to be a journalist? Well, I'm a journalist more than a filmmaker. I decided on a journalism career pretty early on since it lets me dig deep into one subject or world I know nothing about until I'm utterly exhausted by it and ready for the next. And to observe people and places on a daily basis that I would maybe never have a relationship with in my normal day. As a journalist, you can ask people pretty much anything. And they actually answer you.
Who are your heroes? I love meeting people who have accomplished a great deal yet remain honest, humble and understated.
What story do you want to tell on 10.10.10? It will depend on where I am that day, but I gravitate toward darker stories and scenes with tension and crisis. It's the Irish in me.
Why is this important to you? It's really a matter of interest more than importance. I'm generally most comfortable in totally uncomfortable situations.
