Nairobi“Climate Work Party” Joins Thousands of Events Across the Planet
10/10/10: World’s Largest Day of Practical Action to fight
Climate Change
Nairobi – On October 10, people across the planet will pick up hammers,
shovels, and caulking-guns and join the 10/10/10 Global Work Party,
the world’s largest day of practical action to fight the climate
crisis.
Organizers in Nairobi expect over 3000 people to join in sports the way to save
environment, re-planting 250 trees at Muthurwa estate petition the
gorvernment on illegal sale of 35 acreas land No.209/6509 push for
the arrests of those involved in cutting of 568 trees in the
estate,under the new constitution the gorvernment has an obligation
to offer safe and healthly environment a right to housing to all
citizens, this being a first strategy towards a climate success
story.
Who: The day event will be
graced by activists from Japan,USA,South Africa,England,Mexico being
a partnership between the Baraza La Taifa/African Youth Innititive
on Climate Change.The local guest that we anticipate are
former Africa,commonwealth and Olympic boxing champions.
Motive/Strategy:Following the recent illegal logging of about 548 trees in Muthurwa estate to pave
way for development by the Kenya Railways Staff Retirement Benefit
Scheme,the residents are witnessing first hand the impact of illegal
logging of the 45 years old trees, impacts such as dust fumes and
choking are becoming a norm birds,eagles nesting destroyed.
What: Sustainable
sports under 14 Teams (The team shall be using a ball made from waste
recycled nylon paper materials.) then senior side event: Country bus
Fc V/s Black Cats Fc.
Through this tournament and tree planting exercise community will be able to
engage and share on environmental awareness petitioning the
government for the right to safe clean environment/ right to housing.
By re-planting the trees we will remind the government through the
new constitution its international obligation on planting 10% tree
cover country wide.
