There is 24/7 human rights vigil opposite the Chinese Embassy in London. People from all walks of life that practice the Falun Gong (Falun Dafa) meditation practice sit there peacefully. People and traffic pass by, some feel touched and want to know more, some just pass by and carry on in their path.
The practice has been banned by the Chines regime since 1999, and the vigil has been running for the last ten years.
It is an illegal ban and the persecution perpetuates dozens of human rights violations according the universal human rights declaration. (freedom of belief, freedom of assembly, protection from torture, rights to livelihood, rights to education, rights to information etc..)
I would interview the vigil participants as well as passers by, and film life around the vigil location. i.e. Oxford Street (a major shopping street), nearby offices and cafes.
One of the main ideas I would like to focus on is whether the vigil is making any impact to those around it. Do people care about people on the other side of the globe? Do people care about people they don't know who suffer in some obscure prison in China? What compels the vigil participants to give up their free time to take part?
I have three years experience as a correspondent for NTD TV, New Tang Dynasty Television ( www.ntdtv.com) which is based in New York. I mostly make news packages on human rights issues and the London grass roots environmental movement.
I research, write, film and edit my own news packages and would like to get more people involved in the project.
