my 7 year old daughter, Bronte and I have been in the Philippines for past three months - we were here for the devastating flash floods triggered by Typhoon Sendong and more recently and earthquake setting off landslides.
Bronte started a toy drive in early Feb to collect huggable plush bears to send to the evacuation centers - her goal was originally 1000. We have just returned from Iligan City where Bronte personally distributed hundreds of donated toys to children who've lost everything. I believe we have more than 4.500 donated toys (90% from children) which have come in from all over the world.
Mon Corpuz - director of the Black Pencil Project worked with us in making the toy drive a huge success - and he told me of his involvement in ONE DAY ON EARTH.
Bronte and I plan to continue our efforts to support children in need - as we believe one should never underestimate the universal power of a teddy for play, comfort and healing.
