11.11.11

All Challenges should be addressed through your blog, and submitted to your teacher as appropriate. Please address each Challenge in a separate blog post.

Math: We've been exploring triangles and centroids. Select an object in your footage and estimate the location of its center of gravity using a triangle's centroid.

PE/Health: We've been exploring heart rates. Estimate the heart rates of 5 people in your footage using the data from our heart rate activities this week.

Drama: We've been exploring pantomime. 'Say' something meaningful without using words in your documentary.

Science: We've been exploring the periodic table of elements. Identify as many of the elements from the periodic table found in your documentary as possible.

English: We've been reading The House on Mango Street.
When Esperanza is talking with the 3 sisters they tell her the following,
“When you leave you must remember to come back for the others. A circle, understand? You will always be Esperanza. You will always be Mango Street. You can’t erase what you know. You can’t forget who you are.” (page 105)
Apply the meaning of this quote to your documentary.

IT: Regarding the video files that you share with others and upload (i.e.
not necessarily the raw video):

1. Identify the data compression used when preparing your files. Is
the compression lossy or lossless?

- Use software to find out.
- Indicate what software you used and the steps you took to find out.
- Hint: VLC may be able to tell you.

2. Are your files accessible (i.e. you watch/listen to them) to media
players that only implement open source codecs? Explain, while
identifying a codec that could be used to read your files.

3. When you upload your video, what becomes of the licensing terms?
That is, are you required to agree that the uploaded file will be
licensed as something other than All Rights Reserved? When the One Day
on Earth project releases their finished video in the future, what
will the licensing terms be? Cite a source if possible.

The Fantastic Four are Austin, Nicholas, Ryan, and Samuel.

Their mission for One Day on Earth is to synthesize the topics, concepts, inspirations, stories, and locations of all other student groups into One coherent and powerful message from The Classroom.

They plan on greeting everyone in the morning as the day begins at KAS and will attempt to capture the essence of the beginning of the school day. They'll move on to document the social climate of life at KAS, and finish with an exploration of our surroundings - an eclectic blend of urban and natural. They'll finish with an attempt to capture the faces that make KAS what it is.

The Fantastic Four are still searching for the message they'll deliver or the story they'll share. As they move through the day on 11.11.11, interacting with the other student groups and the KAS community, they hope the images and ideas will come together and they'll be able to give shape to what The Classroom has to tell, or maybe ask, the world.
