On/off/on/off/on/off is a way of transmitting binary code through electric pulses. When writing out binary code, the "1s" are placeholders -- then you just add up all the numbers below them:



1 0 1 0 1 0
------------------------------------------------------------- = 32 + 8 + 2 = 42!
32 16 8 4 2 1
