About Power Up Gambia:

Imagine a hospital without electricity, nurses having to tend to patients, deliver babies and set IV lines by candlelight. Emergency surgeries would be impossible. Children in respiratory distress would have no supplemental oxygen from oxygen concentrators. Drugs and vaccines dependent on refrigeration would be ruined. But solar power can change this. That's the vision of Power Up Gambia.
Our mission is to provide reliable electricity and water to healthcare facilities in The Gambia through solar energy.

We are a small grassroots organization working mainly in the Philadelphia area to raise awareness around this need and the funds to make a difference. We work closely with Gambians at the project sites and their surrounding communities to plan and implement the installation of solar power arrays.

On October 10, 2010, Power Up Gambia will be partnering with 350.org and several other organizations in Philadelphia to promote a Green Future, with speakers, success stories, activities and a fair! The event begins at City Hall then moves a block away to Friends Center (1515 Cherry St). Check out the event details at either of the links below.

Hello all! Here at One Day on Earth, we're gearing up for 11/11/11 and we want you to join! Anyone planning something interesting from The Gambia for November?

Paul, you might want to try contacting the local UN office in Gambia.....they might be the best bet, since we don't have any individual members from Gambia....

Although our work is done in The Gambia, we are based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. We are a part of a large event taking place on 10.10.10 which we will film, but we would like someone to film at our the hospital we have powered-up in The Gambia. Please help!
