very successful morning filming the cyclists riding down the eastern side of Port Phillip Bay. Brighton - Black Rock - Seaford - Frankston. Sun came out in the end but wasn't missed due to the blinding colours of Lycra & Spandex.

Going out to take photos around Perth now, not the most perfect day, especially considering the weather we have had for the last few weeks - never mind, we need the rain!

Our balloon flight is grounded :-( We damaged the payload in the test flight yesterday (when it went for a swim) and the weather has gone bad on us making it likely the backup payload would also go for a swim today. The weather is a fickle thing... Now for plan B.

Here we go.....walking to the top of Mt Tamborine with video in hand...the Gold Coast isn't showing its true colours this morning though...looking more like the south coast of Tassie on a winters day!!!!!!!
Have a great day filming every-one :-D

Hello Shelly, Grant in Adelaide here. I am working with a team who are planning on launching a helium balloon with a HD video camera payload to the edge of space on 10.10.10. The goal is to show our world and how fragile it can look from space.

I also hope to show how amateurs can collect such unique footage, including the tracking and recovery efforts involved utilising another of the worlds unique hobbies, Amateur Radio. The group I am involved with tracks the balloon using an amateur radio beacon sending telemetry data containing the balloons position, height and other observation data on the flight. Mobile ground crews using wireless cellular internet receive and upload the tracking data to a flight prediction website, as well as using radio direction finding equipment to track the actual transmitter signal.

Our launch site will be in the Adelaide Hills, and if the flight is like the past attempt, it is expected the balloon will travel to an altitude of approimately 35km (110,000+ ft) and a range of around 200km.

One of the previous attempts was captured with a still camera, a montage of which can be seen here!
