Wonderful, Mohammad! What are your plans for your students on 11-11-11?
Thanks-
Chris
Hi everyone-
11.11.11 is less than two weeks away!
Like last year's 10.10.10, we'll be using both the iEARN One Day in the Life forum ( http://foro.iearn.org/webx?14@@.ee70728 ) as well as this forum to post our work on afterward.
* What kind of day will Friday 11.11.11 be in your community? Will it be a school day or a holiday? We'd love to know! What are your students planning to document on 11-11-11? Do they have any ideas yet? Please share them with us!
* If you have any ideas, or tentative plans, or other feedback on what we might expect, please email me at cbaer@vineyard.net or post them right here in our ODOE forum!
Anything that students might document for the regular iEARN One Day in the Life project, they may document for this event as well:
* their morning routines
* a mealtime
* their school day (if they attend school on this day) as well as after-school activities
* downtown scenes
* community scenes
* family scenes
* time with friends
* special events (is there anything unusual happening on 11-11-11 in your community?)
* quiet moments
* a beautiful scene
* an interesting scene culturally unique to your region
* an emotionally moving scene
...the possibilities are endless!
If you choose to shoot video on 11-11-11 (so that you may contribute to the footage on onedayonearth.org, for instance), please try to keep your final footage to less than 5 minutes per participating video student (less than 60 seconds might even be better!) Also, we discourage you from heavily editing and post-processing your video(s) - don't bother adding music, or cuts, or special effects. Often a straightforward, uncut shot can be the most powerful and engaging, as well as the most useful to the professional filmmakers who may want to use it later.
Also, you don't need to have a professional video camera to shoot video - a cellphone video, a webcam, a still camera with a "video" mode can all shoot great video. Do brace your camera, don't rush your shots, and think about what sounds a microphone will pick up.
So get ready! Put cameras (or other recording devices, including pencils) into the hands of as many students as you can. (And yourself, too!) You'll have many weeks to edit and upload your work afterward. There's no rush. Just focus on capturing what you can on 11.11.11!
Question: Can you use footage, photos, or documents made on a different day?
Answer: No. The idea is to capture a slice of life on Friday 11 November 2011, no matter where you are or what you're doing. If you don't attend school that day (most of us in the USA won't, for instance, nor will much of the Middle East), students will have to be on their own, so prepare them well! (Note: photos, videos, etc. made on other days can still be used in the regular, ongoing, iEARN One Day in the Life project.)
How can you get started?
* If your students are 13 years or older, and may be using video (or at least photography), invite them to sign up for their own account on One Day on Earth!
* If you're looking for video ideas, be sure to watch their trailers for 10.10.10 at http://www.onedayonearth.org/page/trailers-and-videos (there's some iEARN student footage within!)
Keep in mind that this event is not a video-only event. It is also part of our regular iEARN One Day in the Life project, so we will soon be setting up special discussion areas for 11/11/11 in the iEARN One Day forum, including places for students to publish text posts and other media. (Even if your students use video, we ask that you post a link to it in the iEARN forums, so that the younger students and the non-video-making students can view, enjoy, and respond to them.)
We look forward to your 11-11-11 participation! Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
All the best-
Chris

Hi everybody-
We're gearing up for 11.11.11 with another partnership between iEARN and OneDayonEarth. This is going to be fun!
Like last year, we're asking iEARN members to cross-post on this forum as well as in discussion areas we will soon set up on the iEARN 'One Day in the Life' forum ( http://foro.iearn.org/webx/.ee70728/ ) So post your 11.11.11 videos here and then post a link and caption on the iEARN forum. Post text documents and other media on iEARN. For photographs, you can do either or both!
Keep in mind that students must be 13 years or older to have an account on this site. For younger students, you may want to post videos on their behalf, or restrict them to the iEARN forum.
So what are you going to do this year for 11.11.11? Any new ideas?
I understand a couple of iEARN students spotted their 10.10.10 videos in the OneDayonEarth trailer. Wow! I can't wait to see the finished film.
All for now-
Chris
Hey Chris. We're still hard at work editing, and aren't ready to reveal specifics of whose work will or will not be in the film, but I will say that are certainly a number of students and school groups who did a fantastic job and whose work we'll definitely be including in the film.
Hi Katy-
I'm sure many of us iEARN teachers would like to participate again with our students. Do you know if much K-12 student footage will be included in the final 10.10.10. film? (That would get them pumped!) We learned a lot from the first experience, so I'm sure the second time out we could be better prepared. Are you planning on doing anything differently?
