I'd highly recommend the free Magic Lantern. It will turn your camera into a full blown videocamera with many additional features.

I have used Magic Lantern on my Rebel T3i for two months now, and it's great.
I installed it for 160x ISO settings.
Also cinescope crop mark came in handy.

I don't have that fast SD card, so I can't make use out of the bitrate control.

Disadvantages should be
1. It takes a bit of time to get used to the control that magic lantern adds. (If you haven't installed it yet, using it on 11/11/2011 could be risky.)
2. Boot speed gets slower.
3. SD card's read and write speed has to be fast, or movie recording simply stops in the middle of take.
4. Sometimes battery drains faster.


I think it doesn't add much for 60D or higher series,
but for those who want more manual control over rebel t2i or t3i, and also have time to get used to it,
I highly recommend it as well.

I'm using Magic Lantern on a 60D and it's amazing! I think the only risk is in the bitrate stuff if you set it too high (maybe)...

Advantages:

- I can monitoring audio with headphones while recording trough usb cable!! (low impedance headphones works better)
- I can monitoring audio on level meters at the screen while recording!
- I can change analog audio gain for both channels and digital audio gain for each separate channel and record internal mic in L track and external mic in R channel and more..
- Several crop marks included, more crop marks to download and you can make your own crop marks and focusing screens.
- Restart auto the video recording when it stops at 12 min.
- Spotmeter, horizontal and vertical level, lot of useful infos (DEF, hyperfocal, lens equivalence in 35mm, several zebra, shutter angle, CMOS temperature, shutter counter..) ghost image,
- Focussing aids, follow focus, rack focus, magic zoom...
- White Balance with reference white on the scene!!!
- Changing bit rate to higher or lower values
- And all the adds on for photo mode that I've not checked yet.

- Is FREE open source software developed and upgraded by the photographers and videographers community.

Disadvantages:

- Run from the SD card that must be modified and if you start the camera with a standard card without previously disabling ML on the camera it can get blocked till battery is removed.
- Tiny font size for the infos displayed.

I don't notice boot speed slower on 60D...
I use the popular Trascend class 10 SDHC card and works fine for a 1.3X bit rate increment, but only use this bit rate for special quality shooting

I wish all this would be part of the Canon firmware, but it is not and i need i. I can' shoot without Magic Lantern now, i have better exposure control, framing and focusing good aids and (best of all) I have actually sound control.

But yes, there is only 2 days left to 11/11//11, if you install ML in your camera let the default config and give it a try :)
Don't make lot of changes or you can hassle with menus and miss a good shoot, and don't show too many overlays on Live View screen and too many active aids or your battery will drain faster.

Tons of tutorials, videos, forums, blogs.. I recommend Magic Lantern as well

Severeal minutes ago I installed ML and I don't know what's happening, the "green screen" with the info "succesfull" doesn't appear and anything appears...and I turned off the camera and on again and nothing happensssss!!!....
