SAVE OUR EARTH CLUB, Hunsur, a rural town area in Mysore District in Karnataka, South India has finalised a novel event of creating awareness for stopping pollution of the only river 'Lakshman Theertha', in the eastern plains of the UNESCO recognised World Heritage Western Ghats of India flowing through the town. The river water is becoming smelly and dark due to dumping of sewage water from town sewage system and also dumping of solid wastes like plastic etc., into the river. We are inviting the towns people to come and light a lamp each made of mud and let it flow down the river accompanied by local folk music and folk dances by school children and people related to environmental issues. The event will be held at the Old Bridge (built in the year 1882 by the great Tiger Tipplu Sultan, the then ruler of Mysore) on 12-12-12 starting from 6 PM. Please come and light the lamp of awareness to keep our water bodies clean and our environment green. ALL ARE WELCOME.
