SUMMARY:The Switch 10.10.10
DESCRIPTION:On October 10, 2010, The Switch will join more than 1,000
groups around the world to address climate change as part of 350.orgâ€
™s Global Work Party campaign. Three environmental documentaries will
be screened simultaneously at this year’s events. No Impact Man (200
 9) will be shown at indieScreen, 285 Kent Avenue, Williamsburg, Brookl
yn at 1:00 p.m. The films Crude (2009) and The Age of Stupid (2009) wi
ll be shown at Tribeca Cinemas, 54 Varick Street, Manhattan at 1:00 p.
 m. Following each screening, guest speakers including environmental ac
tivists and independent filmmakers will hold a public discussion regar
ding the films. On December 5, 2010, a gala with high-profile special
guests will be held to recognize activists for their achievements.\nTh
e Switch’s aim is to inspire a switch to a new consciousness where p
ersonal responsibility, collaboration and empowerment become leading c
omponents in solutions to complex issues. Initiatives like The Switch
are engaged with the belief that in order to bring change on the neces
sary scale, the world cannot solely rely on eco-friendly “to-do list
s”, but rather deeper, internal shifts on the way individuals relate
to the Earth, the global community and to individual creative power.
In effect, The Switch is creating a significant grass roots movement,
not just environmentally but socially.\nThe ongoing initiative has ann
ual events planned for 10/10/10, 11/11/11 and 12/12/12. Plans are unde
rway for an environmental film festival in New York City, educational
environmental film programs in schools and art exhibits in partnership
with community organizations. Events will also serve as fundraisers f
or organizations creating change in the climate crisis. The organizati
ons receiving proceeds from this year’s events include No Impact Pro
ject, GrowNYC and Conversations with the Earth.\nTo buy tickets to the
film screenings please visit the indieScreen box office: http://www.i
ndiescreen.us/?page_id=76, and Tribeca Cinemas box office: https://tic
 kets.tribecafilm.com/Online/default.asp?brand=cinemas. Tickets are ava
