Event Description

Academic staff and students of the Hebrew University
of Jerusalem along with the public will celebrate the
opening of the new academic year with a “happening”
on Azza Road in Jerusalem’s Rehavia neighborhood

on Friday, Nov. 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Among the events, all open to the general public, will
be “Einstein on Azza,”
a series of lectures by Hebrew
University lecturers that will take place in various
locations along the street. Among those speaking will
be Hebrew University President Prof. Menahem Ben-
Sasson, who will talk on “Ceremonies and Strategies
in Jerusalem;” Prof. Idan Segev, Who will speak on
“The Unknown – Are We Approaching a Computerized
Copy of the Brain?” Prof. Vered Viznitzky-Seroussi,
who will speak on “The Social Protest;” Dr. Ariel
Hirschfeld, who will speak on the Poems of Bialik and
Pems of Jerusalem; Prof. Naphtali Wagner, who will
conduct a music workshop on the Beatles; Dr. Orli
Sadeh, who will speak on education in finance; and
former Hebrew University President Prof. Hanoch
Gutfreund, who will reveal personal aspects of the life
of Einstein

In addition to the lectures there will be a mobile art
exhibit of the municipality, street musical and
theatrical performances, and a designer fair – all
taking place on Azza and adjoining streets.

“The Hebrew University is marking the opening of the
2011-12 academic year with a colorful and fascinating
event for the Jerusalem community,” said Prof. Ben-
Sasson. ”We are pleased to share with the
community the tremendous and current knowledge
that is found in our institution.”

Among those cooperating in the venture, in addition to
the Department of Media Relations of the Hebrew
University, are the municipality of Jerusalem, the
Ginot Ha’ir Community Council, the Ruach Hadasha
organization, businesses, institutions and private
individuals along the street, the Rehavia Youth Forum,
the Student Associations of the Hebrew University
and the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, and the
Jerusalem Challenge organization.
