One Day on Earth

The World's Story is Yours to Tell

Hi everybody-

How can we use this project and site as an extension of our iEARN activities?

I was thinking:
1) Students and teachers can make accounts and upload their 10.10.10 work on this site, but also post a link in the iEARN One Day forum for discussion there as well.

2) Teachers and older students can make their own accounts here (and make sure they identify themselves as iEARN members and join this group!) but younger students might be better off posting under their teacher or a class account, and restrict their discussions to the iEARN forum to protect their privacy and safety.

3) This isn't just a student project - teachers and administrators and their friends and family can make and post videos as well!

What do you think?

Hi Gina, I will be working on this today. I can share what I will be using. Would you like it posted here?

Dorothy,
I was wondering if you or anyone else would be willing to share the letter/release form you have sent home to parents regarding this project.....rather that invent the wheel from scratch :)....

Thanks,
Gina

Hi Mike,

I have since been advised by my school board that we must get release forms signed, which I plan to do. I also saw somewhere on this web site where this project was explained, about when they put together the video for the whole world, that release forms must be submitted as well. Isn't this true?

I will also send a letter home to the parents explaining what we are doing with the release forms.

I will also follow the format of using first names only. We feel that is safer.

I know that newspapers give full names, but with all that information now available online (newspaper articles on their news web sites), I expect that things will change in the future. Especially when photos can be lifted so easily from the news web sites ........ everyone knows the "screen print, crop, copy" process of obtaining anything off of websites.

I am a little surprised that I seem to be the only one here with this concern.

Take Care!
Dorothy
Gina, I emailed you my forms since I did not know how to upload them here .... but now I see the button to do this .... I did upload them but then I deleted them. I'd prefer to send by email which I did.
Mike,
We will be using adobe premier elements....as we have this program installed in our lab...but I believe that sony has a free program that you can download that is a basic editor....my students mentioned it to me, but I have forgotten the name....

Hope that helps

I am just wondering what you guys are using to edit your videos? Is there a webbased program that is good for it?
Ok I have found a great online program called jaycut.com. YOu can upload video and then edit it online. That sort of answered my question. I was actually sondering how people have been uploading videos to the Vimeo channel like the bee video.

Dear Chris
I plan to use the former Onedayinthelife discussion in www.iearn.org just like the way that I did at the first semester- to make a seperate discussion and upload all the students' works for each class. I will ask some voluntarily studens to join some of onedayonearth site after making their id and password. Or as you mentioned, I will collect some of their works and upload the students' works.
Hi Mrs. Yoon!
Great! I would recommend trying to upload the videos on OneDayonEarth as they instruct (via Vimeo - you'll need to make yourself an account if you don't have one) and then copy and paste the URL in the iEARN One Day in the Life forum as you suggest setting it up. If you try to upload the actual videos to iEARN you may run into some bandwidth problems, plus they won't be accessible by the non-iEARN public. (But we DO want to encourage iEARN students to have their discussions in the iEARN forum.)
We all look forward to seeing your students' work!
Chris

Is there anyway to get our uploaded videos displayed on our homepages on onedayonearth.org?
Hi 2 of my students wrote a song and now they are creating a presentation to use to help one of our iEARN partner schools.
