Guba is a non-governmental organisation that works to alleviate poverty in Swaziland through sustainable community development.
Believing that sustainable difference can be achieved using simple solutions to solve complex issues, our small team of dedicated professionals research & develop innovative & appropriate responses to design & plan a brighter future with the people of Swaziland.
We are a small organisation with a focus on quality as opposed to quantity. Because we don’t believe in quick fixes, we make sure all our projects are sustainable, use local materials & are run by local people. Individual drive, self-regulation & autonomy are qualities actively encouraged & sought after in the people we work with.
We empower individuals & communities to take responsibility of their own health & welfare through learning how to improve their nutrition, develop self-sufficiency & sustainable livelihoods.
Our approach integrates ecology, landscaping, organic gardening, architecture & agro-forestry to create a rich & sustainable way of living.
We use appropriate technology to obtain high yields from low energy inputs while at the same time building diversity & stability.
Our training centre is a working example of all that we teach & generates an income for Guba through the sale of produce grown onsite.
We are based just beyond the village of Malkerns, in the mid-veld of Swaziland: an area aggressively farmed using monoculture practices, herbicides & pesticides.

Hello!
I am filming in NYC "aging in the western world" on 11/11/11. My partner and I are focusing on a 90 yrs old woman here. We would like to have other places represent a story of aging. Do you know anyone who would like to film an elderly person to get their story of what it's like growing 'old' in Swaziland??? Thank you!!!
With much respect, Anna B.
Thank you so much for sharing GUBA's valuable work with One Day on Earth. The world needs to know about your efforts to create a sustainable way of living through ecology and agroforestry. We look forward to learning and seeing more of your activities in Swaziland. Are you planning to film anything on 11.11.11? Any luck in finding a video recorder? We hope to hear from you.
Cheers,
Manuela
