Jean-Claude, Congolese, is a UNV volunteer Air Operations Assistant, working for the United Nations Mission in Sudan, at Kadugli Airport, Southern Kordofan State, Sudan.
On 10 October 2010 Jean Claude will be engaged in airport maintenance activities, on side of his usual tasks regarding control of aircraft movements, flight safety, flight planning and other aviation operational procedures.
He works closely with his counterparts in the Sudanese Civil Aviation Authority and has been actively engaging in training them, building their capacity, e.g. training them on Marshalling, Ground Safety, getting them familiarised with International Air Traffic standards.
He is contributing to the Millennium Development Goals by means of both his role in assisting air operations and by building the capacity of the local colleagues.
In a country with size and geographical features of Sudan, air operations are vital to the delivery of assistance, food aid, medicine, medical emergency evacuations; to trade, movement of merchandise; to support early recovery and development programmes.
Moreover, building the capacity of local staff, supposes enhancing their knowledge, their employability, giving them means to be able to access the work market, improve their skills, gain a better living.
